Graphic "Errors" in DeLorme Atlases

Several readers of the newsgroup misc.transport.road have discovered small, unique graphics in some of the DeLorme State Road Atlases.  The symbols do not appear in the legend, and do not seem to represent any feature that would occur at the area at which they are located.

It is likely that the "erroneous" graphics were intentionally placed in the atlases as a safeguard against copyright violations.  If another company printed an atlas of the state and the graphic appeared in it, it would be obvious that a DeLorme map had been used for the source data.
